Browning Hi-Power Grips In G10: Palm Swell or Thin?
The Browning Hi-Power has been going through a renaissance in recent years with a wide range of different manufacturers producing the iconic semi-automatic pistol. There is the Browning Hi-Power, Springfield Armory SA-35, and Girsan MC P35 to name three and LOK Grip produces G10 grips in a variety of thickness and colors to fit all three of these Hi-Power style pistols.
Best Hi-Power Grips in G10
I really like the HP grip angle. It is comfortable and similar to the 1911. What I have never really liked about the Hi-Power are the factory grips. The wood factory grips are flat and in my opinion made the pistol feel chunky. They were never felt comfortable. The newer polymer factory Hi-Power grips were an improvement but still not the best grip. LOK Grips produces a variety of grips made for Hi Power pistols with all types of fits. The best G10 Hi-Power grips in my opinion are the Palm Swell for a full grip and thin for less bulk.LOK Grips Palm Swell G10 Hi-Power grips is on the left. That’s grip finish is Zombie Green Black. On the right is LOK Grips Thin G10 Hi-Power grips. Notice the difference in grip thickness.
How to Change Grips on a Hi-Power PIstol
First thing before replacing grips on your Hi-Power is to remove the magazine and ensure the pistol is unloaded. One screw on each grip panel secures the grip to the frame. Remove the screws and the grips will easily come off. Use a properly fitted screwdriver with a hollow ground tip or you will bugger the grips screws using the same screwdriver you use to pry the lid off a paint can. If the grips are sticking to the frame, insert the screwdriver into the magazine well and gently pry the old grip off the frame. Place the new LOK Grips grip panel on the frame and use the factory screws to tighten them up. No need to gorilla them down too tight. The panels fit perfectly to the frame with no over lap.
LOK Grips offers a perfect fit on both my Browning Hi-Power and my Springfield Armory SA-35. There is no over hang on the frame, no slop, and no wiggle. Just a perfect fit.
Swapping grip panels on a Hi-Power pistol requires removing two screws. LOK Grips install easily and perfectly.
LOK Grips Hi-Power Palm Swell for a Full Grip
The choice between G10 Palm Swell and G10 Thin grips comes to down to comfort and preference. Palm Swell grips fill that void between your palm and the gun, providing a comfortable ergonomic contour while staying thin at the top of the grip for easy access to the magazine release. The LOK Grips Palm Swell grips I have on my Springfield Armory SA-35 is the Palm Swell Roughneck. These grips fill your hand yet allow you to easily flick the safety on and off as well as allows smooth magazine reloads. These grips are thicker than standard Hi-Power factory grips at the swell, but are thin at the top where your needs to work the safety and magazine release. I like the aggressive Roughneck texture. It’s the most aggressive grips LOK Grip offers. The texture is toothy and sharp, allowing you to maintain a secure grip on your gun and not worry about snappy recoil. LOK Grips offers a spectrum of colors all machined from G10. They are also violable in Checkered, Ridgeback, and Bogie textures.

LOK Grips Hi-Power G10 Thin Grips for Less Bulk
LOK Grips Thin Hi-Power grips are just that. They are slightly thinner than stock factory Hi-Power grips. The factory grips that come with the SA-35 can be too bulky for some users, especially in the web of their hand. These Thin G10 grips are the perfect solution. LOK Grips Checkered texture has a classic look and with a feel that is consistent to a light sandpaper. These are a good choice for concealed carry use. Other textures are available like Bogies, Roughneck, and Ridgeback. Bogies amps up the texture with a golf ball dimple texture that provides a very aggressive grip. It is one of LOK Grips most aggressive textures. Ridgeback is another surface treatment that isn’t shy on texture. It offers a series of ridges that lock into your palm and fingers for better control, especially when shooting fast. Roughneck texture is the most aggressive grips LOK Grips offers and allows you to maintain a good grip on your gun with checkering that is big and sharp. This texture may snag on some concealing garments.
LOK Grips Hi-Power G10 Grip Review
I ran LOK Grips Thin grips on a Browning Hi-Power and LOK Grips Palm Swell grips on a Springfield Armory SA-35. Installation was simple and the fit was perfect. I ran a Mozambique Drill with both grips and found I could run the drill faster using the LOK Grips Palm Swell grips with the Ridgeback texture. The pistol felt glued to my hand with minimal movement during recoil so I could shoot faster, yet I was still able to make smooth reloads. The sandy texture of the LOK Grips Thin Hi-Power grips really reduces the girth of the Hi-Power’s double stack magazine.
